Recently, ArchSD has formulated their 5-year Departmental Business Plan (DBP), in which one of the objectives is to develop and provide a new service on government-wide asset management. With the aid of map features over a web-based Esri GIS platform, the winning project, namely the Asset Information System (AIS), is designed and implemented to provide functions for enquiry of property information, review of maintenance and refurbishment records of government properties maintained by the department. It also facilitates effective data sharing and management within the department so as to assist business planning and decision-making. Furthermore, ArchSD has also integrated Esri's ArcGIS Server technology with the Mobile Mapping System to better manage and share the tree inventory data on slopes in certain areas in order to provide a safe and better quality environment for the Hong Kong citizens.

Esri acknowledged the achievements of more than 140 domestic and international organizations with the SAG Awards ceremony at the 2011 Esri UC. The SAG Awards acknowledge innovative and intelligent applications of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) technology.

"The SAG Awards highlight extraordinary achievements and efforts to improve our world," said Esri president Jack Dangermond. "Each year I look forward to being part of this ceremony. It is a tradition that means a great deal to Esri and to GIS professionals."

The ceremony was held at the San Diego Convention Center on July 13, 2011. Thousands of SAG Award nominations are submitted each year. For more information about the 2011 Special Achievement in GIS Award winners, including project information and photos, visit esri.com/sag.
