Arc Hydro Groundwater: GIS for Hydrogeology
ISBN: 9781589481985Pages: 176Year: 2011Price: HK$720

Arc Hydro Groundwater: GIS for HydrogeologyArc Hydro Groundwater: GIS for Hydrogeology describes the groundwater data model, a new geodatabase design for representing groundwater systems using ArcGIS- software. The groundwater data model shares a common framework with the surface water data model, Arc Hydro. Examples illustrating concepts and uses of the Arc Hydro Groundwater data model for management, visualization, and analysis, make this book an invaluable resource for hydrologists, water professionals, GIS specialists, and students who work with groundwater data to research and solve water resource problems.

Arc Hydro Groundwater: GIS for Hydrogeology uses sample datasets from the Edwards Aquifer and other locations in Texas to address the following:

  • The Arc Hydro framework
  • 3D subsurface representation in GIS
  • Geological mapping
  • Aquifers, wells, and boreholes
  • 3D hydrogeologic models
  • Time series for hydrologic systems
  • Groundwater simulation models

About the editors:

Gil Strassberg is the main architect of the Arc Hydro Groundwater data model. He is a senior product engineer at Aquaveo LLC, and part of the Arc Hydro Groundwater tools development team. Strassberg received his master's of science and doctorate degrees in civil engineering at the University of Texas at Austin, where he created the initial design of the groundwater data model as part of his PhD studies at the Center for Research in Water Resources. As a civil engineer, he has been involved in a variety of projects integrating GIS and water resources.

Norman L. Jones is a professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering and director of the Environmental Modeling Research Laboratory at Brigham Young University. He received his master's of science and doctorate degrees in geotechnical engineering from the University of Texas at Austin. Jones has contributed to numerous books and articles on the subject of groundwater modeling.

David R. Maidment is Hussein M. Alharthy Centennial Chair in Civil Engineering, and director of the Center for Research in Water Resources at the University of Texas at Austin. He teaches water resources engineering and conducts research on the application of GIS in water resources. Maidment edited and contributed largely to Arc Hydro: GIS for Water Resources, which features the original Arc Hydro data model.
